Iris is making ready to depart for Kalos to visit Dragon-type specialist and Master Drasna on behalf of Unova. She’s super excited and all and wants Cilan to come, but he can’t as there are current issues to attend to for Striaton and Cilan feels bad already about his absence from the Straiton Gym last time while traveling with Iris and Ash. That leave to further his Connoisseur talents ultimately almost lead to the gym being closed by a dojo breaker. But before he leaves he decides to give Iris a little taste of Kalos to get her ready for her trip there. He naturally lays out a lot of “Kalos culture~” for her to take part in.
Iris and Cilan film a PokeVision video called, How to Train Your Dragon-type. Cilan reveals himself to be a Dragon Connoisseur and puts on a big fancy cap like Lance/Clair’s and shouts, "It’s Dragon Time!" with a Dragon Fang around his neck(Haxorus tusk specifically).Iris introduces Cilan to her newest Pokemon, Gabite, which he has yet to meet. Axew and Gabite play along with Cilan as his little buddies to which causes Dragonite to groan in embarrassment. He also remarks how Kalos even has some Unova-related Dragon structures and tourist attractions.
He explains how Kalos is known for fashion and flair, to which I says she doesn’t care about. Cilan shows her a magazine. Every pretty young lady in Kalos(Paris) is walking around with their stylish Pokemon like Spritzee and Vulpix. Cilan says as a young lady she should focus on looking more stylish and hip, he then flashes a pair of scissors, snipping them slyly in front of her face. Dragonite’s death glare is more than enough to make him stop teasing. He makes PokePuffs and special Lumiose Juice Shoppe shakes. Overtime Gible seems to take a specific liking to Cilan’s cooking in-particular.
Cilan is touched by his kindness and naturally gives the young Dragon the Dragon Fang to wear in the video and in battle. He explains that it is the fang of an ancient dragon Pokemon that terrorized a specific area of Unova. The Dragon Fang is part of a ritual with the purpose of bringing peace to all Dragon Pokemon. The ritual involves the a Dragon Master placing it on a special ceremonial table, then pouring water over it, causing a light dragon to burst out of it and rise into the sky. Legend says that this light dragon becomes a star and watches over all Dragon Pokemon around it.
Iris checks out the fang but says that it isn’t real, just a replication of one which surprises Cilan but she still thanks him for it and puts it back around Gible’s neck(who is on the ground playing and sniffing some flowers). She can’t help but feel a certain empathetic and sensitive connection to the object, even if it isn’t an actual Dragon Fang like the one Clair had back in the Dragon ‘s Holy Land. Before she gets ready to leave, she has a slight change of heart and says maybe she could do for a small change in her appearance. Cilan’s eyes light up and he says “It’s Cutting Time” and says how he’s going to give Iris a little taste of his “Cutting Magic~”
She reluctantly allows him to and is pleased with the results. Saying how her hair resembles a Hydreigon almost. Cilan comments that he should give Drayden’s Druddigon-looking face some nice Haxorus sideburns like the Subway Bosses. They both laugh about it knowing Drayden wouldn’t mind tearing a new one into Cilan if he even came within five feet of his beard with any scissors. Before Iris departs, the Village matriarch spots the Gible wearing the fang and takes a look at it. Saying how it’s a lovely replication and Cilan remarks that Crustle has always been a champ at crafting things out of rock. He says how how he found a pretty stone and let Crustle have his way with it.
The Village matriarch says how she would love to see Gible battle with its brand-new Dragon Fang around its neck. Cilan offers to spar with it and a match between Gible and Pansage is born, Cilan and Pansage taking full attention and care to not use their complete might against the less experienced Gible. Which does remind Iris fondly of how Cilan and Pansage were gentlemen enough to do so against Axew when she had recently started traveling with them, unlike the more rash and battle-hungry Ash Ketchum. Gible surprisingly evolves after the sparring match, to which it kindly thanks Cilan. Going over and joyfully picking up Pansage and hugging him too.
Iris couldn’t help but smirk, thinking how if Georgia were here she would be snarking at her about how Gabite and Dragonite could use a personality switch with how they appear and their species usually act. Iris’s versions being complete opposites to the norm. Cilan than remarks after the battle how he was once again impressed by the love between Iris and her Pokemon and was reminded of the several trials she faced with bonding with Pokemon and dealing with turmoil regarding their trust. How they were there when she was lonely. And how she has grown to love Dragon-type Pokemon especially.
He explained the battle, even if it was a sparring match, and the teamwork between her and Gabite as having an aromatic, savory, honorable and rich taste. He says he wishes to visit Kalos alongside her so he may allow his palate to grow more refined. She couldn’t help but groan but then smile weakly at his food-laced dialogue. Cilan phones Chili and explains how he’s setting off and apologizes, Chili and Cress have no problem with this and are completely understanding. Cilan and Iris decide to embark on a plane in Mistralton toward Kalos.
The Village elder wishes them a farewell, thinking to herself how important that Dragon Fang Cilan gave Iris really is. Not just being a token of kindness to her Pokemon, but something more that will be important in Iris’s growth as a Dragon Master. She still couldn’t believe the dumb luck of Cilan just so happening to make a Dragon Fang out of material like that. But she figured she would allow them to find out on their own with time. The battle being more than enough of a way of to observe the fang, the rhythmic way Iris and Gabite swayed and battled showed it was more than just a regular fang. Cilan’s present to her Gabite was something more, that wasn’t just wishful thinking on the elder’s end either.
